ENBALA Power - The White Papers
Smart Grid – The Future of the Electric Power System:The electric power system is evolving and facing challenges it has never faced before. The innovative solution of building up the Smart Grid and enabling industrial loads to help balance the grid is growing in popularity around the world. Find out more about the Smart Grid and its future in this ENBALA white paper. |

Demand-Side Regulation - Decrease Greenhouse GasesIn a study conducted by BLOOM, demand-side regulation through the ENBALA Power Network (EPN) was found to decrease greenhouse gases by 5,500 tonnes for every MW of Grid Balance provided each year. The reduction is the result of decreased use of marginal peakers. The EPN also reduces smog-related emissions by 38 tonnes for each MW of Grid Balance and the total annual savings, as a result of the decreased impact of air pollution on human health, is $30,000 per year. BLOOM drives commercialization and accelerates market adoption for businesses focusing on clean technology and environmental solutions. |
Introduction to ENBALA Power: Smart buildings making a Smarter GridENBALA Power is a Canadian company that delivers Smart Building solutions for large commercial buildings. Since 2003, we have been providing our ENBALA Hybrid Heating Solution™ to building owners and delivering annual energy cost savings of 10–30%, reducing the green house gas emissions of these buildings by 20–50% and reducing the energy required to heat these buildings by 5–15%. Because our results are measurable and reportable, many of ENBALA's customers have chosen to deploy the solution in additional buildings, after an initial successful installation. |
Fuel Strategy for Our Energy-Hungry PlanetEnergy is sold in many different units. This is the cause of confusion, as there is no easy means of comparing costs of energy use for various fuels. A detailed examination shows some surprising results - and opportunities to reduce costs - and GHG emissions. |
Just How Clean Is Your ElectricityThere is a common view that any additional electricity that is purchased from a utility comes from a marginal source that is claimed to be either coal or gas fired. This may - or may not be correct. Energy that is available for sale on the grid at night is sold at a very low price, driven by the inability of many large steam powered generators to reduce output for a short period. In fact, if the night energy is not purchased, there is a high probability that the source that will shut down is not a fossil fueled plant, but a renewable power plant. |
Improving the Efficiency of the Electricity SystemENBALA Power’s Ancillary Services NetworkTM (“ASN”) allows large energy users to participate in the smart grid by taking advantage of the flexibility inherent in the way their equipment uses electricity. ENBALA’s sophisticated platform aggregates the flexibility available in multiple disparate loads in the network to provide high quality, robust, reliable and resilient Ancillary Services (such as Regulation Service) to Independent System Operators (“ISOs”). This provides electricity users with an opportunity to earn incremental revenue – all without impacting the operational effectiveness of their assets. |
